History of Dawsonville United Methodist Church
The church actually began about 1830.  The original church was a one-room building, the same room we worship in today. Our church was built on a site directly fronting Route 53 about where Dawson County Bank sits today. During the period when the original church was located along 53, it was referred to as "the meeting house".

At that time, the church's exterior was white clapboard with some nice decorative trim along the roofline. When the one-room structure was moved, land was donated at the present site.  No one can remember just when or why the church was moved. After the move and over the course of time, additional space was added including four meeting rooms, rest rooms and the fellowship hall downstairs.  The church exterior was not changed from clapboard to brick veneer until the 1980's.

At that time, engineers from Gainesville were called in to determine whether or not the existing building was structurally sound.  The engineers reported back that the church was in better shape than some of the newer buildings existing in the County.  They recommended that the church invest in bricking the exterior.
